    FROM "THE A POSITION BLOG"
French Lick has a unique and fascinating history.
Weird and watery things happened here.
It all began in the 1700s when settlers and French traders noticed that buffalo and other wildlife liked to lick the mineral deposits from the natural springs bubbling up from the ground. General George Rogers Clark decided to call the place French Lick.
When it was discovered that the Pluto Waters contained traces of lithium, a controlled substance used as a mood stabilizer in the treatment of bipolar disorder, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration authorities banned oral consumption. In reality, a person would have to knock back about 20 gallons of Pluto Water to get a buzz, and given the laxative effects, a mood swing would be the least of his/her worries.
