Review from Tri Radar on the jacket:
Run jackets can be hit and miss affairs, but we think this one’s a hit. It’s a full zip hoody, but close fitting and very flexible, a bit like a technical climbing jacket. We’ve been wearing it a lot over the winter on runs and even some training sessions on the bike.
It’s quite warm, even though it’s not padded or especially insulated. A lot of this is because the top is well protected from the weather with plenty of stretch DWR (Durable Water Repellent) panels to deflect the wind and rain. This leaves you without the extra chills even when it’s wet and cold outside.
Just pull up the well proportioned hood, lock it down with the toggles and get on with running. Thanks to some well-placed mesh ventilation panels and the fast wicking nature of Nike’s Dri-Fit polyester microfiber you don’t end up swimming in sweat when you get up to full operating temperature.
Details are always a strong point for Nike and we love the strong reflective elements, the thumb loops and especially the removable face baffle which you can employ to keep your neck and chin out of the wind when you need to. There are zip pockets aplenty too with hand-warmers each side, one on the chest and another on the rear.
In fact, the Element Shield Max is so versatile, we’ve found ourselves in it more often than not.
